...Cambodia continues implementing heavy weapon readjustment, Step 2 of Phase 1, in Choam Ksan District, Oddar Meanchey Province, to promote peace in the Cambodia-Thailand border region.
Oddar Meanchey, November 8, 2025 — At 18:00, the Regional Military Command 4 forces of the Kingdom of Cambodia continued implementing the activity of “Readjusting Weapons and Heavy Explosive Materiel” for Step 2 of Phase 1, according to the action plan signed jointly with the Thai side on October 31, 2025, under the observation and verification of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).
This activity took place in the operational area of Choam Ksan District, Oddar Meanchey Province, with the active participation of high-ranking officials, military forces, technical forces, and many relevant parties. This activity clearly demonstrates the commitment of Cambodia and Thailand to maintaining peace and stability in the shared border region.
The implementation of weapon readjustment today occurs in line with the spirit of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, which was officially signed on October 26, 2025. This agreement aims to transform the Cambodia–Thailand border area into a region of peace, cooperation, and joint development by establishing confidence and successful cooperation between the two armies.
Following this, implementation also adheres to the decision of the 2nd Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), held in Malaysia on October 23, 2025. In that meeting, both sides confirmed the readiness to reduce the use of heavy weapons and continuously cooperate in a peaceful manner.
According to the agreement signed jointly on October 31, 2025, by H.E. Lieutenant General Pov Heng, Commander of Regional Military Command 4 of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Major General Wirayut Raksing, Commander of the 2nd Regional Army of the Kingdom of Thailand — both sides defined a phased plan for implementing the heavy weapon readjustment and the appropriate materiel exchange in the peace zone.
Based on this plan, the implementation must take place from November 1 to November 21, 2025, for a period of three weeks to implement Phase 1. The activity on November 8 is Step 2, showing tangible progress in the implementation of the plan by both sides.
In a congratulatory message for this activity, high-ranking Cambodian military officials confirmed that the implementation of the readjustment of weapons and heavy materiel is a significant step in building confidence and a peaceful partnership between the two countries. Cambodia hopes that both sides will continue implementing this work with honesty, goodwill, and transparency to develop peace and stability in the region.
The Ministry of National Defense and Regional Military Command 4 confirmed that this work is not just about reducing weapons, but also about paving the way for the development of communities in the border areas and involving the public in living peacefully.
This activity reaffirms that Cambodia and Thailand have a strong intention to maintain and continuously strengthen peace. Both sides have demonstrated close cooperation, showing full readiness for returning to normalcy and economic growth in the border areas, which will bring tangible benefits to the citizens of both countries.
