Sarai Techo Sen Chey, one boat continues writing history
...“Sarai” is the name of a plant seen often on the water surface. Historically, this name has the meaning as a part of Khmer words which barely remains from the ancient era. This name has been continued as an identity heritage, linked with history starting from 1948 or having the first names Sarai Andaet ~ Sarai Phot ~ Sarai Sen Chey ~ Sarai Techo Sen Chey until the present.
In 2012, the year that this modern Sarai Techo Sen Chey boat was reborn, it was founded by Mr. San Sok Hieng as the founder, who dedicated strength, belief, and sincerity for transforming the form of half a piece of wood to the level of becoming a national champion racing boat.
Furthermore, it is the boat that won the championship three times, having recorded many historical victories, including capturing the championship 3 times in the years:
π Champion 2016
π Champion 2017
π Champion 2019
Recently, the Sarai Techo Sen Chey boat showed its capability on the Chaktomuk River in front of the Royal Palace and was also the cup winner in 2024, receiving 2nd place in the special long boat pair category. These victories are not simple, because they show the strong heart, cooperation, and unwillingness to lose of the Khmer race's original cause team.
From the start until today, this boat has been supported by the Khmer public inside and outside the country. “Sarai Techo Sen Chey” does not end its journey; it will continue to exist. The presence of this boat displayed at the new airport also became another new historical record for it. It is also a symbol of tradition, art, sportsmanship, and Khmer national pride that has existed for many generations. When international or national guests stand looking at it, they don't only think about the Bassac River, but they know that Cambodia has two histories—history on the land and history on the water.
The Sarai Techo Sen Chey boat is not only a display of victory, but it is a demonstration that when a generation has the will, the country will have light. And that light, currently, is shining from a new airport named... Techo. It is one boat, but it has brought about the deepest meaning for Cambodia.
