In response to reports from certain Thai media outlets that have misinterpreted remarks from the Governor of Stung Treng Province and distorted facts, creating false claims about a severe energy crisis in Cambodia, we categorically deny these allegations and provide the following clarification:
1. Strategic Fuel Reserves
Fact: The claim that Cambodia maintains only 2 weeks of fuel reserves is technically unfounded. According to official confirmation from H.E. Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, Cambodia maintains strategic fuel reserves for 30 days. Additionally, Cambodia has diversified import sources from multiple countries to ensure regular and sustainable supply.
2. Electricity Independence
Achievement: Contrary to false narratives, Cambodia has achieved significant success in the electricity sector. Cambodia has ceased importing electricity from Thailand (0% imports) due to strong domestic production capacity. Clean Energy now accounts for up to 63% of Cambodia's national grid, demonstrating our commitment to renewable sources.
3. Legal Trade Corridors
Legal Right: The transportation of goods through various corridors, including transit through Laos, is a legal right of Cambodia as a WTO member.
